At first glance, this appears to be a relatively standard pergola. But the construction was actually pretty complicated. In most cases, I prefer to keep this type of structure detached from the house. Mainly because there isn’t really anything to securely attach to without removing bricks and attaching to the frame of the house, but that’s a whole other can of worms. So I had to strategically place the posts in such a way that they would still provide ample support to the roof without obstructing the windows or door to the patio. After it was all said and done, I still had to connect three joists to the topside of the roof, but that’s better than trying to connect the entire thing to the roof. At the end of the day, I think it turned out quite nice!
